Rehearsal time again!

Right now we are getting ready for some upcoming shows for April. It is an exciting time, I really look forward to this part of the process.

This year I am approaching the work differently. I find every time we start a new piece, I try to be less and less rigid with my planning and try to be in the moment with the dancers. Which for a type A person like me, it can be hard just to walk in rehearsal and go with the flow, but it is what has been happening. It is an uncomfortable experience for me, but I find life is all about pushing ourselves out of our comfort zone and you never know what good things will come of it.

Kinetic Elements - Kitchener's Snow Ball 2009

Nope, it’s the latest Kinetic Elements video!

Last year I filmed the dancers separately performing a piece I choreographed called Antevasin, as well some improvisation in between. I overlapped the video in the production phase to portray conflicting emotions within ourselves.

Artistic Director/Choreographer: Kendra Hughes
Dancers: Ashley Desson, Daniel Grys, Kaylan Shearer
Music: Quartet For Strings And Piano In A Minor by the Prazak Quartet

I finally saw Black Swan last night! A big theme in the move was the main character wanting to be the “perfect” dancer. I think for anyone in the dance field,  that is a great question. What makes a dancer great? Is is technique? Is it expression? What do you think?

How do you define a great dancer?

We want to hear from you!

Please take a moment and tell us what you would like to see from Kinetic Elements in 2011!

Kinetic Elements performed this year as part of the Take Two Program at Series 8:08. Here is a short excerpt of the second performance in November. Feel free to leave some of your feedback as well!

A big thank you to everyone who has supported us throughout 2010. What a great year it has been. We could not have done it without the dedication of our beautiful dancers, the contribution of our stage manager, our new students, everyone who bought a ticket to see one of our shows and YOU our fans! Thank you for your support!

For the holiday season, we are offering a deal for our new beginner contemporary dance classes starting in January 2011. If you register for our new session before January 1, 2011 you can still pay the regular price of $80 for 8 classes! After January 1, 2011 the prices go up to $100 for our 8 week session. Don’t wait! The Choreographers

Right before the show!

This piece is one of my favourites and I am so lucky to have worked with Kinetic Elements’ dancer Ashima Suri on this piece. She brought her love of dance to us and it shows. This number gave me chills. Here is the video from the night!
